Can Guinea Pigs Eat Cheese?

People all around the planet love to eat cheese.

It is very famous food with children as it is tasty and extremely simple to eat for the most part. Cheese comes in a big range of flavours, texture and shapes. Types like string cheese are loved by children as they can play and eat their food at the same time.

Cheese is remarkable as a snack by itself and also best on foods such as sandwiches and burgers. You can pretty much have a big selection of things you can do with cheese.

So can guinea pigs eat cheese safety at all?

No, they cannot eat cheese of any type as guinea pigs cannot eat diary items.

Here are few more reasons why cheese should be removed from a guinea pigs diet:

Guinea pigs should mainly eat fruits, vegetables, and plants.

The big source of their diet should be timothy hay and other little and grass they are lactose intolerant which means they will get diarrhea and have bad stomach if they were to eat cheese.

What this means that all kinds of cheese should be removed from their diet.

Cheddar, Mozzarella, blue cheese, Pepper jack cheese, and everything in between to name a few should be removed.

Risk to consider when giving cheese to Guinea pigs are -

Cardiovascular issues

The cheese has a lot of sodium,  cholesterol, and fats. All of these things are bad for the cardiovascular system, mainly when matched in excess. The cholesterol can build up in the arteries and this cause issues with the blood flow in the full organism. The sodium makes water retention and raises blood pressure.

Urinary issues

There is a lot of phosphorus and calcium in cheese. We all heard someone say to us that in order to have powerful bones, we must use diary. Well, phosphorous and calcium are the minerals for powerful bones, but they are bad to the grown cavies. Excess of these minerals make kidney and bladder stones in guinea pigs, also painful urinating, infections, and bloody urine in the urinary tract.

Bad digestion

If the guinea pigs eats cheese, the digestion after that will be terrible. Cheese has no fibers, and this means no more painful digestion and even constipation. Also, cavies lack the enzymes for digesting dairy items, so there might be Diarrhea and Constipation too. Sounds bad right? Well, it can get bad, because cheese also has some amount of sugar. Cavies do not digest sugar perfect, so this will just increase the digestion and cramps issues.
